Bihar hooch tragedy: death toll increases to 70

New Delhi: Seventy people have died in Chhapra, Bihar, as a result of drinking spurious alcohol. On Wednesday, there were the initial reports of the incident. The Nitish Kumar administration banned the sale and consumption of alcohol in Bihar in April 2016.
Chirag Paswan, the leader of the Lok Janshakti Party (R) and a member of parliament, urged that an FIR be filed against Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, for the Chapra hooch tragedy as the death toll is expected to rise.
Chirag Paswan stated that he did not believe that those who perished in the hooch catastrophe had just died, adding that he held the Bihar chief minister accountable for the crime.
When BJP MLAs attempted to criticise Nitish Kumar in the Assembly over the Chhapra hooch tragedy, which has resulted in 70 deaths so far, he lost his cool.
This took place as discussions on the Patna lathicharge on job applicants and the hooch disaster were taking on.
In April 2016, Bihar enacted a complete ban on the sale and use of alcohol in the state, a decision that attracted a sizable number of female voters who were frequently perceived as being victims of domestic violence at the hands of drunk males.
However, the state continues to see fatalities brought on by the consumption of locally produced fake liquor and black market sales of alcohol.
Family members of the deceased in Chhapra alleged that their loved ones passed away as a result of drinking poisonous alcohol. The incident happened in the Doila village of the Isuapur police station area and Yadu Mor of the Mashrak police station area.
