Bengali actress alleges attack by bike-borne attacker in Kolkata

Kolkata: A Bengali actress, Payel Mukherjee, was allegedly attacked by an assailant who appeared on a bike on Friday evening. The actress narrated the ordeal she had gone through on a video she recorded, in which she said that her car window was shattered in the attack. She demanded immediate action against the accused, The Free Press Journal reported.
The video in which the actress recounts the attack was posted on X by a user @erbmjha on Friday. When the actress explains how the attacker had shattered her car windows, shards of glass could be seen around.

According to the X user who posted the video, the incident occurred in a posh area of Kolkata, namely Southern Avenue.
The video went viral on X as numerous users reacted and responded. Many responders expressed their anger on the lack of safety measures for women in the country and criticized the state government, while a case of a trainee doctor being brutally raped and killed in the city and protests demanding justice for the victim continues at large.
An X user wrote, "Tell me, in the state where a woman is the Chief Minister, the women of that state are not safe... Someone has rightly said that women are the enemies of women..."
Another user commented, "Safety is not at all their priority. They have hired 21 lawyers to hide reality.”
It was on August 9 a trainee doctor was found raped and murdered inside a seminar hall at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The incident had sent shockwaves across the nation as details of the murder suggested that there were multiple people involved in the crime and that the victim was mercilessly tortured. There is widespread criticism that the police did a shoddy job and the arrested person is a proxy.
Even the Supreme Court recently observed that the delays from Kolkata Police were “disturbing”.
