Insta post wanted to see Sri Ram Sene chief beheaded over hijab row

Bengaluru: The hijab controversy in the state is getting out of hand as the parties to the crisis are not willing to reach a consensus.

A social media post added fuel to the row on Tuesday after it called for beheading BJP leader Yashpal Suvarna and Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik.

India Today reported Yashpal Suvarna as saying that anti-national organisations or traitors issue such threats from abroad. He said he was not taking the threat seriously.

The leader said the work being done by him was performed within the limits of the Constitution and the Instagram post about him and Promod Muthalik would do no difference, the report said.

Yashpal Suvarna said he wanted to identify the locals behind it and which he said would be found out.

Meanwhile, 24 students were suspended after they attempted to wear hijab in the classroom.

Notices were issued to the students who protested against not being allowed to wear hijab.

They were asked to respond within three days, adding that they colluded with external elements opposing the order of the Karnataka High Court.

Earlier on Thursday, authorities in Dakshina Kannada suspended 6 students for wearing hijab nevertheless they were warned against it, according to The Indian Express.

In another instance, 12 students were asked to leave for wearing hijab in the class.

Even as authorities of Mangaluru University College were sending home students wearing hijab, 16 girls demanded they be allowed to sit wearing hijab.

The college principle wouldn't listen to them, sending them back. The students reportedly approached the District Commissioner's office, complaining about the denial of the class for wearing hijab.

Hijab row erupted, getting international attention after it started by 6 students of Udupi Pre-University Government Girl's College months before.

As the issue snowballed, the Special Bench of the High Court ruled against wearing any religious symbols including hijab in classrooms.
