Assam flood death toll rises to 11, over 3 lakh people affected

Large parts of Assam remained flooded on Tuesday, with one more person dying in Upper Assam, taking the death toll from this year's floods to 11.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the "unprecedented flooding" in the Upper Assam districts of Sivasagar, Jorhat and Charaideo had led to water levels "unseen in half a century".
As of 8 am, five rivers continued to flow above the danger mark. These include the Brahmaputra at Neamatighat, the Burhidihing at Khowang, the Dikhow at Sivasagar, the Disang at Nganglamuraghat, and the Dhansiri at Golaghat and Numaligarh.
Heavy rainfall since Sunday has caused rivers to swell, inundating large parts of Upper Assam.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), around 3.1 lakh people have been affected by the floods, while 14,411 hectares of crop area remain submerged.
Authorities have set up 52 relief camps, sheltering 12,720 people. A total of 9,160 people have been evacuated by boats.
ASDMA said landslides were reported at five locations in Guwahati on Monday evening, but no fresh incidents were reported on Tuesday.
Flooding has also disrupted rail services after tracks near Simalguri town in Sivasagar district were inundated. The Railways has announced special trains to assist passengers stranded due to cancellations.
