Guwahati: Only a few areas of the state remain above waters, after heavy rains for over a week flooded roads, canals, streets, and houses, affecting more than 45.34 lakh people across the state.

In the last 24 hours 7 more people including two children died in floods taking the toll to 107 which includes 17 deaths from landslides.

Prime Minister Modi said the government is closely observing the situation in Assam and offered all aids to fight the challenge.

Modi added that NDRF teams have been deployed to the affected areas and evacuation operation are underway with Air Force conducting over 250 sorties.

As many as 4,536 villages are still under flood waters with homes, schools and streets neck-deep in muddy waters.

News agency ANI released a video of a lone man standing in front of a deserted office surrounded by water.

Barpeta district is the worst-hit with more than 10.32 lakhs people struggling with floods which is followed by Nagaon where 5.03 lakh people got displaced, according to India Today.

759 relief camps set up by 30 district administrations are sheltering 2.84 lakh people alongside authorities giving special attention to children offering them school activities in camps.

Major water bodies in the state including River Brahmaputra, Disang and Kopili are flowing above the danger level mark at Dhubri, Sivasagar and Nagaon districts.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has kicked into service rescue services, deploying the state's additional resources and support systems in the severely affected districts, especially Cachar.

Images from the flooded areas show rescuers carrying to safety people from their flooded homes, and boats loaded with relief materials heading towards camps.

Eight teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) with 207 personnel have been deployed in the Barak Valley districts for rescue operations.

A team of the Indian Army with 120 personnel and nine boats has been deployed in Silchar town, according to India Today.

Floods have damaged 173 roads, 20 bridges and two embankments while destroying Crop area of 100869.7 hectares, and affecting 33,77,518 animals.
