Aradhana Misra Mona takes charge as UP Congress chief, says political landscape set to change
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Newly appointed Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Aradhana Misra Mona on Saturday expressed confidence that the INDIA Bloc was growing stronger and that the state’s political landscape would change ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Speaking to IANS after taking charge, Misra thanked the party’s top leadership for entrusting her with the responsibility. “Our family has been with the Congress for four generations. I will only say that I will uphold the dignity of this position with complete dedication and honesty,” she said.
Misra has replaced Ajay Rai as the Uttar Pradesh Congress chief in an organisational reshuffle ahead of the Assembly elections. Saharanpur MP Imran Masood has been appointed Working President as part of the party’s revamped poll strategy.
The new state president is the daughter of veteran Congress leader Pramod Tiwari. She won her second consecutive Assembly election in 2017, defeating BJP candidate Nagesh Pratap Singh by nearly 17,000 votes, and was subsequently appointed leader of the Congress Legislature Party in the state Assembly.
Reacting to Uttar Pradesh Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar’s remark that Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party candidates would allegedly vote for the Samajwadi Party, Misra said the growing strength of the INDIA Bloc would become more evident in the coming months.
“A panic of sorts has broken out, and because everyone feels that no one wants to board a sinking ship, going forward into 2027, the political landscape is set to change,” she said.
On the developments within the Bahujan Samaj Party involving Akash Anand and party chief Mayawati, Misra described the matter as internal to the BSP. However, she said such episodes weakened the political credibility of an individual or party.
“Respected Mayawati ji is a very senior leader; whatever decision she takes for her party and community will be her own decision and will be taken with her wisdom and understanding,” she said.
