"Apologise" or face "dire consequence": Nupur Sharma threatened
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Delhi Police have given security cover to Nupur Sharma after she received death threats from a terror group in the wake of her controversial remarks about Prophet Muhammad during a televised debate.
Mujahideen Ghazwatul Hind has warned her with "dire consequences" unless she unconditionally apologises for her remarks about Prophet Muhammad, according to India Today.
A statement posted on Telegram by the outfit asked Nupur Sharma to withdraw her statement and apologise to the world.
The statement bluntly threatened her to face what they have done to others who insulted the Prophet.
The Kashimir-based outfit, credited with planting an IED in Dlehi's Ghazipur in January this year, accused the BJP of hypocrisy.
The statement further blamed BJP as tricking people with "Chanakya Neeti" as well as its double standards.
BJP leaders, it said, consistently make anti-Muslim statements alongside the hate speeches by RSS, Ram Sena, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena against Islam and Muslims.
Nupur Sharma's remarks about Prophet Muhammad led to a slew of cases registered against her and invited widespread criticism from the Muslim world.
In its efforts to control damage, BJP quickly had Sharma suspended from her party position and issued a statement that it respects all regions.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have provided security cover to her family members after she complained of threats.
