Angry villagers chase Bihar minister for failing to visit grieving families
text_fieldsPatna: A group of villagers in Bihar chased away the state’s rural development minister for failing to promptly visit the grieving families of a road accident victims.
Shrawan Kumar along with a local MLA came to visit the Jogipur Malawan village on Wednesday morning, to pay condolences to the families of nine people died in a road accident last week, NDTV reported.
However, villagers who were reportedly angry over the minster’s delayed visit began surrounding him a few minutes after he arrived.
The villagers alleged that the minister had neither shown sensitivity towards the victims’ families nor provided them with any compensation.
The villagers reportedly tried to attack the minster but he managed flee the scene.
However, his body guard was injured and was taken to the Hilsa sub-divisional hospital.
Just as the politician was leaving the area, the villagers chased his convoy for nearly three kilometers, according to the report.
Dispersing the crowd, police placed security arrangements in the area.
Responding to the incident, JD(U) spokesperson Dhananjay Dev said that ‘Nitish Kumar's government beat up students, anganwadi and Asha workers, sarpanchs in Patna. Now it is the turn of the public. When they go to ask for votes, the public will chase them away’.
