Coordination committee and students of Aligarh Muslim University on Sunday, 11 October 2020, held a protest march against the unlawful arrests of Journalists and activists on their way to Hathras who were going to cover the gang-rape case.

Students presented the memorandum addressed to the President of India through District magistrate demanding to revoke the charges and cases against Kerala based Journalist Siddique Kappan and three others. The Committe handed over memorandum was handed over to DM.

The memorandum stated that "Journalist was falsely fabricated under various charges and which are not correct, they were going to do their work. Uttar Pradesh police is falsely accusing him and others of various unlawful activities."

It said, "This case is as similar to the case of Dr. Kafeel case. UP government always push to down the voice of youth and send them in the charges of Sedition to disturb and destroy their career"

Former Cabinet member of Aligarh Muslim University Students' Union said, " UP police and government is not capable of handling state affairs and doesn't know anything other than threatening, but they should know we are not afraid, we will keep raising our voice against injustice"

Social Activist, Mohd Amir Mintoee was also present in the protest and showed his concern over the irresponsible behaviour of Uttar Pradesh police. He said, " There is no freedom of press for Journalists in India and only some journalists enjoy this kind of liberty, they deny students leaders of their right to speak, which is very unfortunate."

Student leader Zaid Sherwani, Arif Tyagi, Imran, Faizan, Ravish were the part of protest. Not over 20 students took part in the protest to ensure the norms of Social distancing and Covid 19.

A copy of memorandum with demands has been sent to President of India, Prime Minister Office, Chief Minister Office (UP), District Magistrate, Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Proctor Office of Aligarh Muslim University.
