Adani Group denies airline entry plans

New Delhi: The Adani Group has denied reports and market speculation that it is planning to enter the airline business.
An Adani Enterprises spokesperson said the reports were “entirely baseless and factually incorrect” and clarified that the company is not evaluating any proposal to launch an airline.
The denial comes amid broader discussion over India’s aviation market, where IndiGo and the Air India group dominate while Akasa is expanding. Industry observers have also pointed to rising operating costs, international headwinds and pressure on smaller carriers.
At the same time, India is reportedly considering policy changes to make it easier to launch new airlines. One proposal under discussion is to allow operators of the Delhi and Mumbai airports — run by the GMR and Adani groups respectively — to hold more than 10% stake in airlines.
Adani Group already has a significant aviation presence through its airport business, which includes operations in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Guwahati, Mangalore and Thiruvananthapuram. The conglomerate is also working with Embraer on a make-in-India regional jet project tied to a proposed final assembly line in Dholera, Gujarat.
