Abhijeet Dipke criticises Delhi Police after Tiger Shroff firing incident, cites student detentions
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has criticised the Delhi Police in the wake of the firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff, alleging that the force was focusing on detaining students and activists at Jantar Mantar instead of acting against serious crime.
In a post on X on Sunday, Dipke said the police should direct their attention towards criminals rather than protesters. “Instead of cracking down on students and activists, the police should focus on actual criminals. This is what happens when the Govt and police have their priorities completely misplaced,” he wrote.
His comments came shortly after the shooting incident linked to Tiger Shroff drew widespread attention and raised questions over security arrangements and the police response.
Dipke alleged that several students and activists had been detained by the Delhi Police during recent demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. He argued that such action reflected misplaced priorities at a time when incidents involving violence and security threats required greater attention.
The remarks have drawn mixed reactions. Critics accused Dipke of using the high-profile firing case to gain political mileage by linking an unrelated celebrity incident to the policing of protests. They argued that maintaining order at protest sites such as Jantar Mantar was a legitimate responsibility of the police and should not be seen as neglect of serious crime.
Supporters of Dipke, however, said the detention of young protesters while high-profile criminal incidents were occurring pointed to concerns over how law enforcement agencies prioritised resources and attention.
The controversy has sparked discussion on social media over the police’s dual responsibility of managing public protests and addressing violent crime. Dipke’s comments, coming while the Tiger Shroff firing case remained in the news, have further intensified the debate over whether the authorities are focusing on the right security concerns.
The Delhi Police have not issued an official response to Dipke’s allegations.
