New Delhi: Urging PM Modi ‘not to stop’ the budget for the state, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that for the first time in the country’s 75 years of history a state budget has been stalled.

In a letter to PM Modi, Kejriwal said the people of the state were requesting the PM to allow their budget be approved, according to The Indian Express.

Adding to the continuing spat, the BJP criticised Kejriwal for what it said ‘cheap publicity’ saying that allegations came from ‘a conspiracy to defame the PM’.

Kejriwal earlier claimed that the budget which was to be presented on Tuesday, was ‘stopped’ by the Centre.

Kejriwal’s comments touched off controversy involving allegations between the Delhi Administration and Ministry of Home Affairs and the Lieutenant-Governor’s office.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs said that Lieutenant-Governor expressed concerns about ‘administrative nature of the proposed budget’.

The BJP on Tuesday took on Kejriwal’s comments, asking why the Delhi government sat on the file linked to the Budget for three days.

It went on asking why CM Arvind Kejriwal chose a television channel rather than floor of the house to tell lies.

“Why did the Delhi government sit on the file regarding the Budget for three days? Why did CM Arvind Kejriwal choose a television news channel to tell this lie instead of utilising the floor of the Assembly when it is in session? All this has been done as per a planned conspiracy to defame the Prime Minister”The BJP reportedly said.

Delhi BJP working president Virendra Sachdeva further asked Kejriwal how many times he had met with officials for budget preparation, and whether he had a word with the Speaker.
