Jalalabad: Surinder Kamboj, the father of AAP MLA Jagdeep Kamboj, was arrested on Friday in an extortion case. A case was registered today at the Jalalabad Police Station. Three others including two women are also being sued by a property dealer.

The FIR is under IPC sections 384 (extortion), 389 (putting a person in fear of accusation of offence, in order to commit extortion), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

MLA Goldy Kamboj said he has nothing to do with the developments and that being his father does not give him the right to cheat people. "I came to know about the incident from the police only. Action will be taken against anyone who will do wrong." His father does not live with him.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann told PTI that the law is equal for all. "I have said this before too that anyone indulging in any wrongdoing will be dealt with as per the law and action will be taken."

The complaint, Sunil Kumar, alleged that Surinder Kamboj demanded Rs 10 lakh from him by promising to save him in an alleged false rape complaint. He told police that one of the accused women came to his residence on Thursday to rent his house. He showed her a property. In the evening, he got a call from her son alleging that Kumar raped her. After that, Surinder Kamboj called him and said the police will book Kumar in the rape case and demanded Rs 10 lakh to settle the matter.

Fazilka's Senior Superintendent of Police Avneet Kaur Sidhu said action will be taken in accordance with the law.
