New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly spreading misinformation in violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

The complaint accuses the BJP of sharing a misleading video on social media, showing roads in a deteriorated condition and falsely claiming them to be in Delhi, when in fact, they were from Faridabad, Haryana.

AAP's complaint letter states, "The BJP has been disseminating false information through a video that depicted roads in Delhi as being in poor condition. However, it has been exposed that the video actually shows a road in Faridabad, Haryana." The complaint includes screenshots of tweets from the BJP's Delhi social media handle where the video was shared and links to videos debunking the claims by revealing the true location of the road.

The AAP argues that such actions amount to a "blatant violation" of the Model Code of Conduct, which prohibits the spread of false propaganda during elections. The party has called for stringent action from the ECI, including the removal of the video from BJP's social media accounts, legal action under Section 123(4) of the Representation of People Act, 1951, Section 340 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Section 66 of the Information Technology Act. AAP has also demanded measures to prevent the spread of such misinformation in the future.

The letter emphasizes, "These actions undermine the integrity of the election process, and those responsible should be held accountable to set an example for others and maintain electoral sanctity."

As of now, the BJP has not issued any response to the allegations.
