The incident occurred on Friday evening in the Bodarwar market area when Govind Sahni was on his way to buy vegetables at a local market located a short distance from his home.
According to Sahni’s family, Subhash, a resident of a Dalit settlement in the same market area, along with members of his household, intercepted Govind on the way and allegedly assaulted him with sticks.
Bystanders alerted Govind’s family members after hearing the commotion. When his mother, Subhadra, rushed to the spot, she found him lying unconscious and covered in blood.
Family members immediately took him to the Community Health Centre in Kaptanganj, where doctors declared him dead after examination.
Station House Officer Deepak Singh said police reached the scene and collected details about the incident from the victim’s family and local residents.
According to the police, a dispute had taken place a few days earlier between the accused and the victim over the parking of a motorcycle.
