20,799 fresh Covid cases in India, 9% lower than yesterday
text_fieldsNew Delhi: India reported 20,799 fresh COVID-19 cases today, a drop of around nine per cent from yesterday's 22,842 cases. During the same period, 180 deaths were recorded according to the Health Ministry.
The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Kerala with 12,297 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 2,692 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,531 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 765 cases and West Bengal with 701 cases.
Around 86.47 per cent of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 59.12 per cent of the new cases.
Maximum casualties were reported in Kerala with 74 fresh casualties, followed by Maharashtra with 41 daily deaths.
After remaining closed for over one-and-a-half years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, colleges and other higher educational institutions in Kerala are to re-open on October 4.
Meanwhile, India's active caseload stands at 2,64,458. In the last 24 hours, active cases declined by 6,099.
India's active cases account for less than 1 per cent of total infections, currently at 0.78 per cent -- lowest since March 2020. The active case count stands at 2,64,458, lowest in 200 days.
A total of 26,718 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total recoveries to 3,31,21,247 across the country.
The national Covid recovery rate was recorded at 97.89 per cent, highest since March 2020. At least 26,718 recoveries in the last 24 hours took the number of total recoveries to 3,31,21,247.
The daily positivity rate - number of positive cases identified per 100 - stands at 2.10 per cent, less than 3 per cent for last 35 days. The weekly positivity rate stands at 1.63 per cent.
