Srinagar: In an encounter with security forces on Monday in Awantipora, two terrorists were killed, police said.

From the Rajpora area where the encounter had taken place police recovered two AK-47 rifles and the terrorists killed were identified as Shahid Rather of Tral and Umar Yousuf of Shopian.

Besides other crimes, Shahid was involved in the killing of a woman Shakeela of Aripal & a govt employee/ peon Javid Ahmed of Lurgam Tral, according to IGP Kashmir@JmuKmrPolice.

On Monday, the Kashmir Zone Police tweeted: "#AwantiporaEncounterUpdate: 02 #terrorists killed. #Incriminating materials including 02 AK 47 rifles recovered. Search going on. Further details shall follow."

Also, the police on Monday tweeted to report the encounter that began at Rajpora area of Awantipora.

The tweet said that the police and security forces were on the job, promising to supply further details later.

Security forces, according to Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar, in recent encounters killed 26 foreign terrorists belonging to outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad in Jammu and Kashmir.
