Dharmapuri: A 14-year-old boy has become the fourth person to die in Jallikattu event in Tamil Nadu this year.

Gakul was watching the spirited bull-taming sport at Thadangam village in Dharmapuri when he was attacked by a provoked bull.

He was grievously injured after a bull gored him in the stomach.

Gokul was rushed to Dharmapuri government hospital where doctors said he was brought dead.

Dharmapuri Police are going through footage to find out how Gokul was injured.

Jallikattu comes with the harvest festival of Pongal in mid-January.

Wrestlers get into arena to overpower a charging bull with their bare hands.

The winner is decided by the duration a tamer pins down a bull by its hump.

Jelliketu falls usually on Mattu Pongal, the third day of the four-day festival which is dedicated to cattle.

The Tamil word 'mattu' means bull, a key partner in farming.

The debate on banning the sport continues with many alleging violation of animal rights, while others cry for preserving “culture and traditions”.
