The Indian Express.

Chandigarh: India has successfully tested an anti-ship version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. The feat was conducted with the joint effort of the Indian Navy and the Andaman and Nicobar Command, PTI reported.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command tweeted that the test was carried out on Wednesday. "#IndianNavy & #ANC yet again demonstrate #CombatReadiness by successfully destroying target at sea through #AntiShip version of #BrahMos at A&N Islands on 27 Apr," its tweet read.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command is the only tri-services command of the Indian armed forces, PTI reports.

Earlier, on April 19, the Indian Air Force (IAF) had successfully test-fired the BrahMos missile from a Sukhoi fighter jet. In March, the Indian Navy had successfully test-fired an advanced version of the Brahmos missile from a stealth destroyer in the Indian Ocean.

Brahmos Aerospace is an India-Russia joint programme which produces supersonic cruise missiles to be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land platforms. These missiles could fly at the speed of 2.8 Mach or nearly three times the speed of sound. PTI learned that the advanced version of the missile has a range of 350 km while the original ranged 290 km.
