Hungary might admit Ukraine-fled medical students: Jaishankar

Vadodara: Union Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar said on Monday that the government is concerned about the education of Indian medical students who fled war-torn Ukraine. He said that the government is talking with nations around Ukraine to bring up a solution for these students to complete their education in universities there, The Indian Express (TIE) reported.

Jaishankar said that Hungary had expressed their willingness to admit all the Indian students whose academics got disrupted in Europe's largest conflict since World War 2. TIE quoted Jaishankar, "We are taking this issue seriously to help our children as much as we can."

Jaishankar was on a two-day visit in Vadodara while he informed this. Here he distributed financial aid to the tune of Rs 1.7 crore to 17 children who were orphaned during the Covid-19 pandemic under the PM CARES for Children Scheme. Each of the 17 beneficiaries received Rs 10 lakh, which the government will deposit in post office accounts, and the children will be issued with passbooks regarding the same. Further, they will receive an Ayushman Card, and a certificate from the PM CARES fund. The children will receive a stipend from the age of 18 until 23, receiving a total of Rs 10 lakh.

Further, as part of the Centre's sponsorship, the beneficiary will also receive Rs 4,000 per month along with a similar amount per month from the Chief Minister's Children fund. While the state added another monthly Rs 3,000 under the state government's scheme, A scholarship of Rs 20,000 will also be provided for children who are studying in classes 1 to 12.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually address the beneficiaries of various government schemes on Tuesday. Also, students of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda will attend his virtual session on the book titled Modi at 20: Dreams Meet Delivery.
