Los Angeles: American pop singer Britney Spears has marked her return by dropping a single with Elton John. The song 'Hold Me Closer' is already impressing fans and started topping sales on iTunes within hours of launching.

This is Britney's first song after escaping conservatorship.

The singer was placed under conservatorship for 13 years. During this period, her father Jamie Spears forced her to work against her will by creating music and going on world tours. Once the pop star started her legal battle against her former business manager, many across the world came in her support with the #freeBritney.

Britney has categorised her experience with her father as "conservatorship abuse". The judge recently sided with the singer and ordered Jamie Spears to sit for a deposition this month.

The 40-year-old singer alleged that her father and Tri Star took advantage of her finances. She also alleged that they controlled every aspect of her life including her desire to have another child.

While the legal battle continues, Britney has been reported to be enjoying newfound freedom. She also got married to her boyfriend Sam Asghari.

The Prince of Pop has signed a book deal and is working on projects of her choosing.

Her lawyer Mathew Rosengart told Variety that Britney is a "brilliant artist and an iconic person who has been through a lot." He said many asked him what Britney will do next after the termination of the conservatorship. "For the first time in 13 years, that is up to one person and one person only: Britney."

He added that no one should be surprised that her first foray is a smashing success. "he's been through a lot. Regardless of what comes next for her and whatever she chooses, I am so very proud of her."
