Toronto film festival to return in September

Toronto: The 47th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is all set to be held from September 8 to 18. No special Covid 19 protocols will be implemented this time, and the festival will be held in the previous normal, officials said.
In the press conference held in April, TIFF's Chief Executive Cameron Bailey said that there would not be any online screenings similar to those done in the past two years.
Most of the films were held online due to Covid 19 restrictions. When only 50 films were screened in 2020, over 150 films got screened in 2021 through limited in-person and online hybrid shows.
However, online platforms this year will only be used for other non-screening programs like press meets.
TIFF will also be screening a series of notable works of filmmaker Satyajit Ray between August 4 and 27. His works that speak on post-independence legacy, poverty, patriarchy, etc., are popular worldwide. The series commenced with the screening of the movie Charulatha, released in 1964. Besides this, movies of Ray's contemporaries Ritwikk Ghatak, Amit Dutta, Aparna Sen, and Anik Dutta will also be screened in the summer schedule.
Titles of the expected films to be screened will be announced by the end of July.
