Shah Rukh Khan's "Dunki" climbs to third-highest grossing film, trails "Jawan" and "Pathaan"
text_fieldsMumbai: Shah Rukh Khan's latest film, "Dunki," directed by Rajkumar Hirani, has marked its successful two-week run at the box office.
As per data from the industry tracking site Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 2.20 crore on Friday, reaching a total of Rs 208.67 crore in India.
The global box office earnings, as reported by Red Chillies Entertainment, stand at Rs 422.99 crore for "Dunki." This places the movie on the brink of surpassing "Chennai Express" to claim the third-highest-grossing spot in Shah Rukh Khan's filmography, following "Jawan" and "Pathaan," all released in 2023.
Despite its strong performance, "Dunki" has yet to match the monumental box office success of Rajkumar Hirani's previous ventures, such as "Sanju," starring Ranbir Kapoor, which grossed Rs 588 crore worldwide in 2017. Similarly, "PK," featuring Aamir Khan in 2014, amassed a total gross of Rs 769.89 crore.
Achieving the coveted Rs 500 crore milestone globally might pose a challenge for "Dunki," considering the imminent release of two new films this month: "Merry Christmas," starring Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi (releasing on January 12), and "Fighter," featuring Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan (releasing on January 25). Notably, the last Rajkumar Hirani film to fall short of the Rs 500 crore benchmark worldwide was "3 Idiots" in 2009.
Shah Rukh Khan, riding high on the success of "Pathaan" and "Jawan," has yet to announce his next project. Speculations suggest his potential involvement in a substantial role in Sujoy Ghosh's upcoming film, co-starring his daughter, Suhana Khan, albeit as a long cameo appearance.
