Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD is now just Rs 56 crore shy of overtaking SRK’s Jawan
text_fieldsMumbai: Even after three weeks of release, Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin and starring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, is still drawing sizable crowds at the box office. Kalki performed better on Monday, its 19th day of release than the four days that filmmaker Shankar's Kamal Haasan-starring Indian 2 has been in theatres. Kalki also made it onto the list of Indian films with the greatest domestic box office earnings ever on Monday.
Industry tracker Sacnilk reports that Kalki made a domestic nett collection of Rs 4.3 crore on July 15, its third Monday in theatres. Indian 2, which was on its fourth day of release in theatres, made just Rs 3.15 crore on the same day, a decrease of more than 79% from its Sunday earnings. Even though Kalki's domestic earnings dropped by 73% from Sunday's earnings of Rs 16.45 crore, the film still performed well, indicating that it will probably keep up its pace this week.
Kalki's total domestic nett collection as of Monday's results is Rs 584.45 crore. It just overtook the Ranbir Kapoor film Animal (Rs 553.87 crore), directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, to claim the fifth position on the list of the most-grossing Indian films in the country. Even though its current goal is to overthrow director Atlee's Jawan (Rs 640.25 crore), starring Shah Rukh Khan, this seems like too big of a difference. Since its release in 2017, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Rs 1030.42 crore) has remained the highest-rated film on this list, Indian Express reported.
The Telugu original version of Kalki brought in Rs 1.35 crore, whilst the Hindi remake earned Rs 2.5 crore on Monday. Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada versions of the movie brought in Rs. 25 lakh, Rs. 15 lakh, and Rs. 5 lakh, respectively. The film's makers, Vyjayanthi Films, declared on Saturday that the picture has crossed the Rs 1,000 crore barrier globally, making it the seventh Indian film to do so.
In the Telugu market, the 2D version of the film had an overall occupancy rate of 19.38% on Monday. The occupancy rate for the morning shows was 15.01 per cent at first, rising to 20.41 per cent in the afternoon and reaching a peak of 22.71 per cent in the evening. At the same time, the 3D version of the property registered an overall occupancy percentage of 18.34%.
In addition to Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan play significant parts in Kalki. Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express noted in her review of the film, “Kalki may have Prabhas as the headliner, but it is Amitabh Bachchan all the way — his Ashwatthama is suitably gravelly and towers over the film. Kamal Haasan comes on sparingly but does leave an impact.” A sequel to the film is in development.
