Need to look at the treasure of Indian mythology and folklore, says Hritik Roshan

Ahead of the release of Vikram Vedha, Bollywood actor Hritik Roshan said India is a culturally rich country that has a treasure of folktales and mythology that can act as fodder to tell stories on celluloid.

Vikram Vedha's core idea stems from the Indian mythological story of Vikram and Betaal. Hritik added that the movie has taken something everyone has heard as children and created the entire story of the movie. "To use the lore as a device, it is so sharp."

He added that the film industry needs to relook at this treasure of stories.

Vikram Vedha's director duo Pushkar-Gayatri said it is refreshing as creators to install the stories that are in the grey zone. "What intrigues us as directors is that our mythology or folklore majorly have no demarcation about who is wrong or right."

Vikram Vedha is the Hindi remake of the Tamil movie of the same name. The original neo-noir action thriller starred R. Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi. It received critical acclaim for the cast's performance, narrative style, writing, and technical aspects. The plot deals with the perception of good and evil.

In Hindi, Saif Ali Khan plays Vikram who is an honest police officer who is set on finding and killing Vedha, a gangster. Vedha, played by Hritik, voluntarily surrenders and tells three stories that question the nature of good and evil.

The film is set to release in theatres on September 30.
