National Cinema Day: Indian cinemas to slash ticket rates to Rs 75

New Delhi: As National Cinema Day falls on September 16, Friday, some 4000 participating movie theatres across the country decided to drop ticket rates to Rs 75 on that day, NDTV Gadgets 360 reported.
The one-day-only offer will be applicable, including theatre chains like PVR, INOX, Cinepolis etc., and many more. However, the decision has not been updated on their respective online sites yet.
The move is to celebrate the successful reopening of movie theatres after the pandemic. The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) stated that the offer is a gesture of 'thank you to moviegoers, who brought the theatre business back floating.
According to the National Cinema Day website, all movies to be played in the participating theatres will have a price slash.
A new event in the US, the National Cinema Day, is making headlines and theatres such as AMC and Cinemark have taken prices to $3 (around Rs 240) this weekend. Further, the UK is also celebrating it on Saturday and tickets for the day are priced at £3 (about Rs. 277).
However, the additional taxes charged by online third-party apps or websites should be paid extra. For example, BookMyShow still charges additional internet fees and GST on top of the Rs 75.
In India, the titles that would be running under the ticket offer include Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and other Indian film industries. Bollywood, which has been having a severe down in recent times, might get relief with this campaign. Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra are all set to release on September 9.
