Javed Akhtar's comments on Shashi Tharoor's singing in "pure jest": Shabana Azmi

Actress Shabana Azmi has come forth to defend her husband Javed Akhtar who unintentionally offended the trolls by poking fun at Shashi Tharoor's Hindi pronunciation.

On Monday, Shashi Tharoor caught Twitter users' attention when he shared a video of himself singing Kishore Kumar's Ek Ajnabee Haseena Se. Lyricist Javed Akhtar poked fun at Tharoor's pronunciation of some Hindi words. He tweeted: "Wow! We have almost a similar song in Hindi too."

Shabana Azmi also reacted to the video and tweeted: "Shashi! That's lovely." She also responded to the trolls in another video and wrote, "And all those trolls just chill. Shashi Tharoor is a good friend and Javed's remark was in pure jest!"

Tharoor himself had called his singing to be "unrehearsed and amateur". He wrote that he was persuaded to sing after the cultural programme by Doordarshan Srinagar for the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology. "Unrehearsed and amateur but do enjoy!"

Shabana Azmi has always actively supported her husband on social media.
