‘Safe even without Amma’: Parvathy rules out return

Kochi: Actor Parvathy Thiruvoth has ruled out returning to the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), saying she does not see the organisation as a space where everyone receives equal consideration and feels secure.

In a recent interview, Parvathy said she currently feels safer outside AMMA and does not believe she needs an organisation that no longer provides the sense of protection it was originally expected to offer. She also questioned whether the public continues to take the organisation seriously.

Addressing criticism of AMMA’s present governing committee, she argued that new office-bearers should not be judged after being given only a few months to work, particularly when those who previously led the organisation had remained in positions of influence for decades.

Parvathy said the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) had previously expressed their willingness to engage in discussions aimed at resolving problems within the Malayalam film industry. However, she maintained that those proposals were not given adequate importance at the time.

Having lost interest in pursuing such discussions through the organisation, the actor said she would rather concentrate on her professional work. Her comments come amid ongoing debate over AMMA's functioning and relevance, and over the representation and safety of women in the film industry.

Parvathy’s upcoming major project is the police drama Prathamadhrishtya Kuttakkar, while she recently appeared in a notable role in a film starring Prithviraj Sukumaran.
