Hollywood actress Emily Ratajkowski in a TikTok video criticised Ana de Armas' new film Blonde for fetishising female pain. The 2022 film is based on the life of Marilyn Monroe.

Speaking about the film, she said: "We love to fetishize female pain. And I think as women, I can say for myself for sure, I've learned how to fetishise my own pain and my own hurt in my life so that it feels like something that can be tended to that's kind of sexy." The model turned actress cited examples of Princess Diana, Amy Winehouse, and Britney Spears to speak about society's obsession with women in the public eye.

She added that the public view of women and the way women view themselves need to change. She further said that anger is an emotion that is hard to fetishise. "So I have a proposal. I think we all need to be a little more pissed off. I'm gonna be in my witch era."

After the Blonde was released on September 16, critics and audiences alike have been saying the traumatic portrayal of Monroe's life is not appealing. The film shot the death scene of the actress where the real-life Marilyn died. It also has a fictional sexual assault scene with JFK. Another widely criticised scene is in which a CGI foetus is asking not to be hurt.
