'Cross-cultural acceptance' across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu film industry: Deepika Padukone

New Delhi: Deepika Padukone in an interview with The Times of India prior to leaving for this year's Cannes Film Festival has said that even with the recent dialogue surrounding the North Indian vs. South Indian cinema, Indian cinema has been going through enormous changes and that there is presently more 'cross-cultural acceptance".

In her statement, she mentioned how in India, the lines between Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam cinema are finally fading away. She said, "I think, earlier, we worked in isolation – there was a Hindi film industry, a Telugu film industry, a Tamil industry and a Malayalam industry… And now those guardrails are coming down."

Deepika is attending the 75th Cannes Film Festival as a part of the nine-member jury, consisting of four women and five men. They will decide the movie that will be afforded the top prize.

According to The Indian Express, on Monday, the actress joined other members for a Jury dinner before walking the red carpet in a gorgeous multi-coloured Louis Vuitton sequin dress.

In a recent interview, the actress who starred in Bajirao Mastani shared that she wasn't in the habit of watching many movies, and how that made her feel out of place during her initial days in the film industry when she would meet with an industry friend and have no idea about the films they talked about. Deepika mentioned that she had a lot of 'catching' up to do as she used to watch may one or two movies a year. She also added, "My life growing up was very different. I was at the badminton court, and it was a very structured and disciplined life, in that sense. There was no time for movies".

Deepika has several movies that she is working on including, Pathaan which she will be acting along with Shah Rukh Khan. She also has the Bollywood remake of The Intern and Hrithik Roshan-starrer Fighter in the pipeline.
