Mumbai: Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh spoke about the boycott trend that has been plaguing the industry for a while now. She said calls for boycott affect not just the actors but the entire chain of filmmaking.

"You should boycott something that affects a certain section of society, but don't pre-empt and start that conversation because it affects the entire chain of filmmaking, not just the actors. The industry suffers, and the number of films being made suffers. So it's a chain that is followed. Employment goes down," said the actress.

She has two more films lined up this year - Thank God and Doctor G. Thank God is facing calls for boycott and legal trouble for hurting religious sentiments. The film is about a common man who meets Chitragupt, a Hindu deity, in the afterlife. Some people have taken offence over the portrayal of God. A UP-based lawyer has filed a case alleging the concept of the film is mocking the Hindu religion.

Rakul Preet Singh is having a busy year. Two of her films Cuttputlli, co-starring Akshay Kumar and Runway 34, co-starring Ajay Devgan have already hit the screens.

This year, several films came across the boycott trend and many celebrities said that it was a mistake to not react the first time it happened. Some of the films that faced calls for boycott are Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha, Akshay Kumar's Raksha Bandhan, Ranbir Kapoor's Brahmastra, and Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan's Vikram Vedha. Some industry insiders believe the boycott affected the box-office performance of the films.
