Vetrimaran's 'Asuran' has officially selected in Indian Panorama 2020 at 51st IFFI

On Saturday, Information and Broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar announced movies that will be screening as part of Indian Panorama selection at 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
20 non- feature and 23 feature films have been selected for screening. Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput starred 'Chhichchore' has also been included as part of three mainstream films consist of Asuran and Malayalam movie 'Kappela'.
Thrilling revenge of Vetrimaran's Asuran is based on Poomani's popular novel 'Vekkai' (Heat). The movie tells the story of an impoverished farming family somewhere in Thirunelveli. Asuran portrays the life of 'haves' and 'victimized have nots'. The movie which was released on 4th October 2019, influenced by real life incident of 'Kilvenmani Massacre' of 1968 where families of Dalit village labourers, were murdered by a gang allegedly led by their landlords.
In twitter, Dhanush shared his happiness and said that it is an honour that Asuran is screened at IFFI. He posted, 'Asuran, at the indian panorama section of IFFI 2020. An honour for all of us involved in making thefilm. Thanks for selecting a film of the people'
Along with Asuran, Ganesh Vinayakan's 'Thaen' will also be screening at 51st International Film Festival of India at Goa. The other films in the selected list include June, Prawaas and Karkhanisanchi Waari (Marathi), Kalira Atita (Oriya), Gatham (Telugu), Avijatrik (Bengali), Eigi Kona (Manipuri), A Dog and His Man (Chattisgarhi).
The 9th film gala, postponed due to Covid 19 which is previously scheduled to take place in Goa from 2020, November 20- November 28 is now will be held from January 16 to January 24 net year.
"Happy to announce the selection of 23 feature and 20 non-feature films in Indian Panorama of 51st IFFI. @MIB_India," Javadekar wrote on Twitter.
Twitterati praised Asuran's official selection in Indian Panorama. Netizens tweeted Asuran's selection as "most deserved screening".

Other than Vetrimaaran's Asuran, other South movies to get screened in the festival are Nazriya Nazim and Fahad Fazil starrer Trance, a Kannada film titled Pinki Elli and a Mollywood film Malayalam movie Kappela.
The jury selected Ankit Kothari''s "Paanchika", a Gujarati language movie, as the opening non-feature film of Indian Panorama 2020.A total 20 titles, including "100 Years Of Chrysotom - A Biographical Film", "Ahimsa- Gandhi: The Power Of The Powerless", "Justice Delayed But Delivered", "Still Alive" and "Investing Life", will be showcased under the section.
