Actor Sreenath Bhasi arrested for verbally abusing journalist

Kochi: Actor Sreenath Bhasi was arrested on Monday by Maradu Police for verbally abusing a female journalist during an interview. He was released on bail after sureties were presented.

He was being interviewed by online media for the promotion of his latest film 'Chattambi'. The actor allegedly lost his cool due to some probing questions. He forced the crew to turn the camera off before verbally abusing the interviewer and producer. After sensing trouble, he later apologised.

A video that has gone viral since then shows Bhasi appearing offended when the anchor asked a question related to the title of the film. An irritated actor was seen saying he was pissed off and wanted to leave. He then asked the camera crew to stop recording.

The actor said he did not abuse anyone but responded in a way that every person would when they are insulted. He insisted that he didn't do anything wrong.

The police registered the case and asked him to come to the station. On Monday morning, he sought a day's leave and it was granted. He later changed his mind and came to the police station today itself. He was questioned for an hour before being arrested.

The police are taking a look at CCTV footage and other video evidence. It will be decided later whether more charges should be slapped on him. He is currently charged with IPC Sections 354 A (sexual harassment), 294 B (uttering obscene words, in or near any public place), and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

Since then, another video surfaced in which Bhasi was seen abusing a radio jockey during a different interview. He was reportedly irritated over the poor standard of the questions. Noone filed a complaint over this incident.
