New Delhi: Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy revealed that before he set up his company, Wipro had rejected his application for a job, CNBC-TV 18 reported.

Later, former Wipro chairman Amiz Premji told Murthy that not hiring him at the time was a mistake, he said.

‘Azim once told me that one of the biggest mistakes he committed was not to hire me,’ Murthy was quoted as saying.

Murthy said things would have turned out different for both the leaders of Indian IT industry, if Wipro had hired him at the time.

Rather than wait for jobs, Murthy went head setting up Infosys along with six friends investing Rs 10,000 as seed money that given by his wife Sudha Murthy.

Murthy built up his empire from scratch, becoming a leader in Indian IT firmament.

On the other hand, Premji turned his inherited vegetable oil business into an IT software solutions firm.

Over the years both companies progressed with Infosys getting valued at ₹6.65 lakh crore as of January 12, 2024 while Wipro’s value is put at ₹2.43 lakh crore.

Murthy started his eventful life beginning as a research associate at IIM Ahmedabad, before being a chief systems programmer.

He developed along with a colleague India's first BASIC interpreter for TDC 312 which was a computer manufactured by Electronics Corporation of India Limited in 1960s, according to NDTV.

Before Infosys came into being, he set up his own IT venture Softronics which eventually failed.
