Apple cut ties with Ofilm Group over allegation of Uyghur Muslims as slave labours in its production line
text_fieldsUS tech hero Apple cut ties with one of their prominent suppliers over allegations that the company had participated with a Chinese Government program to relocate Uyghur Muslims from Xinjiang to several parts of the country and to enslave them.
The group informed that Ofilm Group, a Chinese company was expelled from the Iphone 12 Camera module's distribution network, BloombergQuint had revealed the latest report.
It was only recently, the report that 'the Uyghur muslims from Xinjiang Province in China are compelled to slave labour in companies in far away lands', were brought to light.
Earlier in July last year, Apple had denied the report that claimed one of its distributors are exploiting Uyghur Muslims as slaves in production lines. Prior to a few months, Apple had terminated its contracts with the Chinese supplier, a person, who refused to reveal his identity, said to Bloomberg.
Citing labours' rights violation, Apple had taken a tough line in the past on its China centered supply chain. In 2020 Apple had earlier suspended Iphone-assembler Pegatron under the allegation of labor abuses. America had repeatedly protested against China's cruelty on the Uyghur minority from Xinjiang, equalising it as genocide. it is unclear whether Apple has confirmed the serious allegation against Ofilm.
Thousands of Uyghurs are being deported to different parts of China at a Labor Fair under the claim of eroding the ever existing hunger in the locality. Foreign Media reports that the Uyghurs are being sent in large numbers to around 82 factories of prominent companies spread across the country.
The reports had also pointed out that along with hard labor, they are accommodated in poor shelters, taught Chinese language and ideal classes on behalf of the Chinese Government's 'training'. Since 2017, Under the name of re- education camps, over 10 lakh Uyghurs have been imprisoned.
