Ambuja Cements Limited, part of the diversified Adani portfolio, has announced its inaugural venture in Bihar, representing the largest investment in the state by a cement industry player.

The Warisaliganj Cement Grinding Unit, a standalone facility with a total capacity of 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), will be established with an investment of nearly Rs 1,600 crore.

The project will be implemented in three phases.

The first phase, with a capacity of 2.4 MTPA and an investment of Rs 1,100 crore, is expected to be operational by December 2025. Adequate land for future expansion has been provisioned, which will be developed at a much lower capital expenditure, according to a company statement.

The site, located in Mosama village, Warisaliganj tehsil of Nawada district in Bihar, is well-connected by road and rail. The Warisaliganj railway station is just 1 km away, and State Highway-83 is only 500 meters from the site. The project aims to support Bihar's growing infrastructure needs, aligning with priorities outlined in the recent Union Budget.

At a foundation stone-laying ceremony hosted by the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA), Chief Minister Nitish Kumar highlighted the significance of this investment by the Adani Group, emphasizing its potential to foster sustainable development in Bihar. The project is expected to contribute approximately Rs 250 crore per year to the state's fiscal revenue and create 250 direct and 1,000 indirect jobs.

The event was also attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Industry Minister Nitish Mishra, and Pranav Adani, Managing Director (Agro, Oil, and Gas) and Director, Adani Enterprises Limited.

Pranav Adani stated that this investment aligns with the state government's development programs and the company's growth plans. He emphasized the positive impact of the government's infrastructure push on the cement industry and Ambuja Cements' readiness to support sustainable infrastructure development in India. Adani also acknowledged the state government's support in fast-tracking permits, enabling this significant investment.

BIADA has allocated 67.90 acres for the Warisaliganj cement unit, for which environmental clearance has been obtained. This unit is expected to be operational by December 2025. Additionally, Ambuja Cements has been allotted 26.60 acres in Mahbal, Motipur, Muzaffarpur, for another cement unit. Environmental clearance for this project is in process, with work expected to commence soon.

Ambuja Cements, a leading cement company in India and a member of the Adani Group, has significantly expanded its capacity to 78.9 MTPA with 18 integrated cement manufacturing plants and 19 cement-grinding units nationwide. The company has also entered a binding agreement to acquire Penna Cement Industries Limited, which has a capacity of 14 MTPA.
