Tata Tiago to get AMT in September

Mumbai: Tata Tiago will get with AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) gearbox following the success of GenX Nano hatch and the Zest compact sedan.

The new Tiago AMT is expected to be launched by September 2016. It seems that Tata will be offering the AMT gearbox for both the Petrol and Diesel variants of Tiago.

The new Tiago AMT will also be powered by the same 1.2-litre Revotron Petrol engine of Tiago delivering 84bhp of power and 114Nm of torque output.

The engine will be paired to a five-speed Automated Manual Transmission gearbox. The highlight feature of the AMT equipped Tiago will be the presence of the crawl function which prevents the car from rolling backwards without pressing the accelerator. However, the Tiago AMT is expected to be slower than the Manual transmission variants in terms of acceleration.

Tata is likely to offer the AMT option from the mid-XM variant of Tiago at an expected starting price of Rs.4.5 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Tiago Petrol AMT will be launched first around the festive season of this year while the Diesel AMT will be offered later which will make the Tiago as the only car in the segment featuring a diesel AMT.

After its launch, the AMT equipped new Tiago will take on the likes of Maruti Celerio AMT and Hyundai Grand i10 AT.
