Bengal governor denies sexual harassment allegations by staff
text_fieldsKolkata: Calling "engineered narrative", West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose rejected allegations of sexual harassment against him by an employee of the Raj Bhavan. He said that some wanted election benefits by maligning him, but he will not stop his fight against corruption and violence in the state, NDTV reported.
"If anybody wants some election benefits by maligning me, God bless them. But they cannot stop my fight against corruption and violence in Bengal," NDTV quoted him.
Meanwhile made a series of posts on X, which read, "To the Raj Bhavan staff who expressed solidarity with Hon'ble Governor Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose against whom some derogatory narratives were circulated by two disgruntled employees as agents of political parties, Hon'ble Governor said".
The allegations were raised against the Governor after Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled a visit to Kolkata. The PM spent a night in Raj Bhavan on Thursday.
On Thursday afternoon, police sources informed that a temporary staff of the Peace Room in the Raj Bhavan approached the police post inside the Governor's House and accused him of molesting her.
Officers there took her to a local police station at Hare Street, and she filed a complaint with the station, alleging that the Governor molested her multiple times on the pretext of a job.
This is the same Governor who rose into action and talked to women in Sandeshkhali when the issue of sexual harassment and illegal land grabbing came to limelight after severe protests erupted there. A member of the ruling Trinamool Congress leader, Shahjahan Sheikh, who is suspended from the Mamata Banerjee-led party now, was accused of rampant sexual harassment and illegal land-grabbing. Governor Anand Bose had made harsh comments against the ruling TMC on the issue after he talked with the people there.
TMC utilized the chance to slam the Governor. Senior Trinamool leader Shashi Panja said, "We are utterly shocked. The same Governor who reached Sandeshkhali talking about women's rights has now been involved in a rather shameful incident. He has sabotaged the reputation of his post and his chair," NDTV quoted.
