Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Saturday that he will travel to Washington on Monday for a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss efforts to “end the killing and the war.”

The announcement came after Zelensky held a phone call with Trump, during which the U.S. president briefed him on the “main points” of his recent talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

“On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, DC, to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war,” Zelensky said. “I am grateful for the invitation.”

Zelensky described his conversation with Trump as “long and substantive,” noting that it began as a one-on-one discussion before European leaders later joined.

The Washington meeting is scheduled just three days after Trump’s summit with Putin, which concluded without a ceasefire announcement or significant breakthrough in ending Russia’s more than three-year-long invasion of Ukraine.

Following the U.S.-Russia talks, Zelensky urged that European allies be included at “every stage” of negotiations. He also reiterated his willingness to take part in a trilateral summit with Trump and Putin — a format Kyiv has long supported, but which the Kremlin has resisted.

“Ukraine emphasises that key issues can be discussed at the level of leaders, and a trilateral format is suitable for this,” Zelensky said.
