Rafah: Israel continues its siege in Gaza with more aggression after the US has supplied its military with more ammunition. Despite the rising international outrage and calls for a permanent ceasefire, Israel is going forward with its deadly offensive, Associated Press reports.

On Sunday, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that he will not stop appealing for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. He said that the war has destroyed the credibility and authority of the Security Council.

Around 85 per cent of people have been displaced so far in the war-torn territory, and UN agencies are repeating that there is no safe place for the civilians to flee.

Moving a veto over the United Nations Security Council’s efforts to end the fighting, the United States continues to support the Israel offensive into Gaza. It also committed an emergency sale of $100 million worth of tank ammunition to Israel.

The US is holding fast to its pledge of unwavering support to Israel in destroying Hamas in a bid to return hostages Hamas captured during the October 7 attack. On the day, the Hamas fighters stormed into southern Israel and, killed around 1,200 people and took some 240 hostages. Later, 100 people were released.

Israel retorted for the attack, which killed around 17,700 Palestinians, making 1.9 million people flee from their homes. Of the dead, 70 per cent were estimated to be women.

On Saturday, a delegation of Arab and Turkish ministers who visited Canada called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, reports Arab News. The delegation included Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki. The delegation urged the international community to take up its responsibility to safeguard the Palestinian civilians in peril on their own land. The team also stressed the importance of opening relief corridors so that humanitarian relief reaches those who deserved it. They also stated that they are disappointed at the US move to veto over calling for a ceasefire.
