White House wedding: Joe Bidens granddaughter Naomi Biden, Peter Neal to tie knot today
cancel

On Saturday, Naomi Biden, the granddaughter of US President Joe Biden, will wed Peter Neal, a University of Pennsylvania law graduate student, on the South Lawn of the White House. This will be the first wedding in the White House where the bride is the grandchild of the President who is currently in office. According to the BBC, it will also mark the 19th wedding to take place there since 1812.

Hunter Biden and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle are the parents of Naomi Biden. The 28-year-old is Joe Biden's oldest grandchild. Peter Neal, her soon-to-be husband, is an associate at Georgetown Law's Center on National Security while she is a lawyer.

On Thursday, Mr Neal, 25, posted a picture of himself and his partner standing in front of a chiffon-wrapped arch while holding hands. He captioned the post, "Gotta nail the money shot to secure the licence to wed," and stated that a self-timer was used to snap the photo.

The couple has been dating for the past four years, claims Newsweek. In New York City in 2018, a mutual acquaintance set them up on a date, which led to the beginning of a romantic relationship.

In a setting that included the band of his grandmother's engagement ring, Mr Neal proposed in September of last year with an emerald-cut diamond. Naomi Biden revealed the location of the wedding ceremony on Twitter in July, saying she was "not sure how best to update."

She said that she and Mr Neal had "finally figured out where the ceremony will be... and much to the relief of the secret service and with the dogs' endorsement... we'll be getting married on the South Lawn! Couldn't be more excited".

According to Newsweek, the White House has announced that the Biden family will cover the cost of any wedding-related expenses.
