US woman arrested after her sexually abused toddler-daughter dies
text_fieldsKentucky / US: A mother in the southeastern US state of Kentucky was arrested on Sunday after her the 17-month-old child died following sexual assault.
The girl succumbed to her injuries following which 21-year-old Erica Lawson is charged with second-degree manslaughter and first-degree criminal abuse of a child under 12.
Fox News further reported that Lawson also faces charges including first-degree wanton endangerment and failure to report child neglect.
Lisa Fugate, who is the Bell County Commonwealth Attorney, revealed that the toddler had ‘signs of physical and sexual abuse’.
The hospital staff put her on life support when she was rushed there on July 28.
The child, however, died two days later on July 30 from the severity of her injuries, the report said.
Local media reported that toddler was raped and beaten that subsequently left her brain dead when she was taken to hospital.
The Middlesboro Police Department has started probing who was responsible for the sexual abuse.
Lawson was arrested on Sunday night and was taken to Bell County Detention Center.
The police said they would make another arrest soon.
