US Woman accused of murdering husband searched internet for luxury prisons
text_fieldsNew York: The US woman Kouri Richins, who allegedly poisoned her husband to death, searched Google for details including a ‘luxury prisons for the rich’ and insurance payment.
The 33-year-old mother of three gave her husband Eric Richins a lethal dose of fentanyl in March 2022, according to KTVX.
Kouri tried to update herself on information which she deemed vital for her criminal act, thus in the process leaving behind evidence on internet.
She searched for details about ‘luxury prisons for the rich in America’ alongside seeking details of penitentiaries in Utah.
She wanted to know how long it takes for the insurance companies to pay claims, and looked up whether police would force a lie detector on a suspect.
Details of her Google searches revealed at the detention hearing added that she wanted to know if investigators can see deleted messages.
The judge hearing the case called her a ‘substantial danger’ to society, and ordered her to continue in detention.
The suspect appeared to have read articles including ‘Signs of Being Under Federal Investigation’, and ‘Delay in Claim Payment for Death Certificate with Pending Cause of Death.’
Her defence attorney Clayton Simms argued that Kouri was updating on how evidence is processed in relation to her case, according to BBC.
However, Eric Richin’s sister Amy Richins said in her statement that her brother ‘ died under horrendous circumstances’, adding that she is tormented at the thought of Eric’s suffering.
‘I play it out in my head, I go through the terrible sequence of events. I wonder when he realized he was in mortal danger. I wonder what Kouri may have said to him in his last moments,’ Amy Richins was quoted as saying.
Amy Richins added that Kouri was portraying herself as a ‘grieving widow and victim’ while attempting to ‘profit’ from her brother’s death.
Eric’s death was reported, according to BBC, on one night in March when Kouri called the police saying that her husband was ‘ cold to the touch’.
She told the police that she was getting ready a vodka drink for Eric when she found him ‘unresponsive’.
A medical examination later found that he died from fentanyl overdose.
