Senator Tim Kaine, a prominent figure in the Democratic Party, has labelled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as one of the "most destructive public servants" of the past twenty-five years. Kaine, known for his foreign policy expertise and as Hillary Clinton's former running mate, accused Netanyahu of jeopardising Israel's safety and undermining its relationship with the United States.

“He’s going to end up being one of the most successful politicians and most destructive public servants to be on the world stage in the last quarter century, because he’s successful if you measure it by maintaining his own position”, said Kaine.

Senator Kaine emphasised that Netanyahu's actions have significantly strained the historically strong ties between Israel and the United States. He pointed out that Netanyahu's focus on maintaining his political power has come at the expense of Israel's security.

Kaine questioned the Biden administration's decision to transfer weapons to Israel without congressional oversight, expressing concern that Netanyahu had manipulated the situation to his advantage during the Gaza war.

Kaine highlighted President Biden's initial miscalculation in his approach to Netanyahu, believing that emphasizing compassion for Israel would sway the Israeli leader's decisions.

However, Kaine noted that Biden has since recognised the limitations of his influence over Netanyahu. Despite efforts to provide well-intentioned advice, Biden has become frustrated with Netanyahu's resistance to change.

Senator Tim Kaine's damning assessment of Benjamin Netanyahu highlights the complexities of diplomatic relationships and the challenges faced by world leaders in navigating them. The tensions between the US and Israel, exacerbated by Netanyahu's leadership style, continue to shape international dynamics in the Middle East.
