US plans for more attacks on Iran-backed militias: White House

Washington: The White House informed that the US will place more strikes at Iran-backed militias as part of its response to attacks on US troops last weekend, Reuters reported.
On Sunday, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said that the administration plans for additional strikes and actions. It intends to convey a clear message that the US will respond to attacks on its forces or people.
On Saturday, the US and UK launched strikes at 36 Houthi sites in Yemen. This was the second attack on the Iran-backed Houthis after the militant group attacked US troops, killing three Americans.
The Saturday strikes were on 13 sites that the Houthis used as bases to attack ships in the Red Sea. The US's first wave of attack, as part of its retaliation effort, hit more than 85 targets in Iraq and Syria linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and militants.
These are the latest in the series of armed exchanges which was triggered by the October 7 attacks by Hamas in Israel. The Palestinian militant group Hamas rushed into Israel from the Gaza Strip and ignited a war.
Sullivan said that what happened on Friday was not an end but a beginning of the US's response. Also, there will be more, "some seen, some perhaps unseen", Sullivan warned.
He said that he would not describe it as some open-ended military campaign.
