US: One killed, several injured in New Hampshire country club shooting

Nashua: A shooting at the Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, New Hampshire, left one person dead and several others injured on Saturday, according to local media reports citing officials.

The private club, located near the Massachusetts border, was hosting events including a wedding when the violence broke out.

Assistant Attorney General Peter Hinckley told reporters late at night that some victims had sustained gunshot wounds, while others were hurt in the ensuing chaos. The exact number of injured has not yet been confirmed, CNN reported.

Hinckley said no arrests had been made, though a person of interest was in custody. Police later clarified that surveillance footage showed only one suspected shooter, revising earlier reports that two people were involved.

The New Hampshire State Police said on X that they were assisting with the investigation. Meanwhile, Nashua police have set up the Sheraton Nashua hotel, located just over a mile from the club, as a family reunification center. Residents have been advised to stay away from the Sky Meadow area.

The incident has prompted concern from lawmakers, with Senator Jeanne Shaheen writing, “Billy and I are praying for those injured. There is no place in our state for this type of senseless violence.”

Representative Maggie Goodlander said her thoughts were with the victims, their families and the Nashua community, while Senator Maggie Hassan expressed sympathy for those affected and praised the response of law enforcement and first responders.

According to its website, Sky Meadow Country Club is a private venue featuring a golf course and facilities for weddings and other large gatherings.

Nashua, located about 45 minutes from Boston, has been left shaken as authorities continue to investigate the deadly shooting.
