US man falls to death during hiking as wife and 5 kids watch
text_fieldsNew York: A 40-year-old man who was hiking near Oregon's Multnomah Falls in the US was killed after he slipped and fell on the side of a mountain as his family watched, ABC News reported.
The fatal accident happened on July 2 near Benson Bridge close to Oregon’s tallest 620-foot waterfall.
The officials linked the reason for Gerardo Hernandez-Rodriguez’s fatal accident to alcohol.
‘Mom, Dad, five kids were all here enjoying a beautiful day. And unfortunately, a tragic accident happened. At one point on the trail, the father slipped and fell and fell down the side of an embankment.’ John Plock, a spokesperson for Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, reportedly said.
The official said that the victim’s family reached out for help dialing 911. However, his family and other witnesses could not locate where Redriguez landed.
After 45-minutes search, the Corbett Fire Department found Hernandez-Rodriguez lying dead, according to the report.
‘Nearly 2 million people visit Multnomah Falls every year but it's not just a leisurely walk where you show up with your flip-flops and you take a walk on a paved path. This is a hiking trail. You should be prepared for an actual hike with the proper footwear,’ Plock was quoted as saying.
