US launches ‘America first’ visa scheduling tool to prioritise key applicants
text_fieldsUS Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced a new “America First” visa scheduling tool designed to prioritise applicants whose travel is considered important to strengthening ties with the United States, including business professionals from India.
Speaking during his four-day diplomatic visit to India, Rubio said the new system is aimed at improving the efficiency of US consular operations while supporting growing economic and strategic relations between the two countries.
The tool will give earlier visa scheduling access to applicants whose travel contributes directly to US interests. This includes business executives, investors, and professionals travelling for commercial partnerships, investment discussions, and expansion of operations involving the US market.
Rubio said the US-India relationship has deepened significantly in recent years, including through commercial investments and security cooperation.
He noted that Indian companies have invested more than $20 billion in the United States and referred to growing military cooperation through Indo-Pacific exercises.
“An orderly and secure consular system is vital to solidifying this important relationship,” Rubio said.
According to Rubio, the system is intended to reduce delays and uncertainty in the visa process that can affect business travel and partnership-building between the two countries.
He also said the initiative would improve efficiency within US diplomatic missions by helping consular staff process applications more quickly and accurately.
“This facility saved Americans money because it's going to make us more efficient. It's going to allow us to do the work we have to do anyway, but more accurately, faster, and in a more efficient way,” Rubio said.
