Washington: In a sharp escalation, US forces destroyed a vital highway bridge in Iran, with President Donald Trump vowing "much more to follow" and pressing Tehran for a deal.

The precision strike targeted the B1 bridge connecting Tehran to Karaj, described by a US military official as a critical supply route for Iran's missile and drone units.

Iranian state media countered that the bridge was still under construction and unused by troops, reporting eight deaths—including civilians celebrating Nowruz—and dozens injured.

Trump celebrated the hit on social media: "The biggest bridge in Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again—Much more to follow! MAKE A DEAL BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE."

US sources framed the operation as part of wider efforts to cripple Iran's logistics amid rising regional tensions. Iran, meanwhile, hit back defiantly: Parliament Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf declared every citizen a "soldier" ready to defend the homeland, while the foreign ministry dismissed talks as "impossible."

The assault extended to other sites, including an airstrike on Tehran's Pasteur Institute—a key public health center—that Iran decried as a threat to global health security.

Tensions spilled over: Israel downed Iranian missiles, Yemen's Houthis fired at Israel, and UN diplomacy faltered as Russia, China, and France vetoed force to secure the Strait of Hormuz.
