London: A British man on Tuesday admitted to using a dead man’s bank details to go shopping after storing his mortal remains in a freezer for two years.
John Wainwright, 71, died in September 2018, but his body was found on August 22, 2020 as kept in a freezer, The Metro reported.
Now Damion Johnson, 52, accused of using cash from the dead man’s bank account, pleaded guilty to preventing ‘the lawful and decent burial’ of the pensioner.
Denying fraud, Damion Johnson argued that Wainwright’s money he used was ‘technically his’.
The cause of Wainwright’s death, which had taken place when they were residing in a flat in Birmingham’s downtown Cleveland Tower, Holywell Head, has yet be determined.
‘But the 52-year-old denied three counts of fraud by false representation concerning using Mr Wainwright's bank card to withdraw money from cash machines, pay for goods, and transfer money to his own account between September 23, 2018 and May 7, 2020’ According to The Independent reported.
The trail in the case will start on November 7, just as Demion Johson is now free on bail.
Johnson reportedly maintains that he was entitled to the funds of Wainwright’s account, as it is claimed the arrangement was to pay monies jointly into Wainwright’s account.
